Konica Changes Focus to Providing Digital Solutions

Windsor, Conn. — Konica Business Machines U.S.A., Inc. has changed the dynamics of its business from selling hardware with limited capabilities to a business focused on providing digital solutions. To better reflect this new direction, the company has changed its name to Konica Business Technologies, Inc., effective immediately.

"Our past success was based on selling and servicing copiers and fax machines. However, over the past four years Konica has expanded its product line to become the market leader in digital network printing and copying," said Terry Nakazawa, Chairman and President of Konica Business Technologies, Inc. "Today we are the document market leader offering a total digital solution without compromise."

Konica offers a full range of digital products and was the first company to market a fully networkable, 50 ppm digital printer/copier - the Konica 7050 Workgroup Document System printer/copier. Following this flagship product, Konica launched its top-of-the-line 7060 Workgroup Document System printer/copier at the 1997 Fall COMDEX. This powerful 60 ppm, networkable printer/copier combines the latest digital technology with Konica's advanced engineering. To complete the line, a new 40 ppm model will be introduced this month and a 33 ppm unit will follow shortly. The introduction of these two products and the company's new tandem printing system, allows Konica to provide digital printers with speeds ranging from 12 ppm to 120 ppm.

To ensure its leadership in digital document solutions, Konica has also completed a series of strategic corporate initiatives. In 1996, Konica formed a digital solutions group to provide networking, systems integration, and digital document imaging expertise to its sales and distribution network partners. This group is also charged with the responsibility of developing software applications, application upgrades and network capabilities that continue to place Konica at the forefront of the industry.

In 1997, the company opened the Konica Systems Technology Center, an engineering group dedicated to print controller and systems applications development, in Huntington Beach, Calif., and formed two new divisions. Konica Computer Products markets Konica digital products through new sales channels, including value-added resellers, distributors, and mass merchandise retailers. Konica Document Services represents the company's entrance into the facilities management industry.
