Monitel Receives Patent for Copy Monitoring System
Cedar Knolls, N.J. Monitel Products Corp. has announced that it has been issued Patent
No. 0342910 for a Photocopy Monitoring System and Method for Monitoring Copiers by the European
Patent Office. Concurrently, a challenge against this patent has been resisted after an exhaustive review
was successfully completed by the European Patent Office. The validity of the corresponding national
patents remains unchallenged.
William M. Trust, Jr., president and CEO of Monitel, stated, "We are pleased that our
existing intellectual property and technical know-how is effective in the European Community. The ability
to announce the issuance as well as a successful defense of the patent coincides with our current efforts
to introduce remote monitoring systems for meter reading and diagnostic information for the copier,
fax, printer, and duplicator industry in Europe."
Monitel produces remote data acquisition and diagnostic systems that feature an embedded
controller with a modem that is attached to or implanted into a photocopier or other imaging
machines, such as printers, duplicators, fax machines, and high-speed printers. The system enables the machine
to communicate with a remote monitoring site using proprietary software. It will accurately, timely,
and without human interaction communicate with a host anywhere and provide information ranging
from volume activity to status and fault conditions within the machine.
Monitel's technology is protected by additional issued or pending patents in 17
countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, and Australia.
