TonerPlus Solves Paper Jam Error on HP4000 Cartridge

Austin, Texas — TonerPlus' technical Staff has uncovered an apparent OEM cartridge problem that is causing a paper jam error code on the newly released HP4000 series printer. This problem, according to TonerPlus technicians, is related to the cartridge and not the paper feed mechanism.

On the waste hopper, there is a tendency for the flange on the drum axle side of the cartridge to bend or warp inward after one cycle. If the distortion is too great, the flange will touch the drum gear. This contact occurs beyond where the drum axle holds the drum in place.

Although the drum contact by the flange may seem insignificant, enough drag is generated by the contact on the drum to cause the machine to sense it much like a paper jam. In response, the machine will shut down and display the paper jam error (error 13.01.80).

We experienced this problem in developing the remanufacturing process for the HP4000 cartridge. It seems it is more likely to occur after the first cycle of a cartridge. However, some of our customers using the oem 4127A and 4127X cartridges have experienced this same problem. Some have indicated that HP technicians were unable to solve the defect.

Without Drum Axle Gear Spacer

With Drum Axle Gear Spacer

The TonerPlus team has developed a solution for this defect. TonerPlus' specially designed spacer can be placed between the drum gear and the cartridge flange to prevent the problem. The drum axle is slipped through the spacer and into the drum gear. Tighten all screws as is normally done. The spacer provides additional clearance and assures that the flange will not touch the drum gear.

The TonerPlus HP4000 drum axle spacers are priced at $10 per 100-count bag.
