Xerox Scores Market Share Lead in Fast-growing Digital Copier Market
Rochester, N.Y. International Data Corp. (IDC) announces that, based on U.S. shipments in 1997, Xerox Corp.
has achieved the number one market share in black-and-white digital copiers.
IDC, a leading technology consultancy based in Framingham, Mass., estimated that Xerox shipped 20,000 Document
Centre digital copiers in 1997, or 29% of the United States market. IDC estimates the market at 68,750 units surpassing
competitors that include Canon, Konica, and Ricoh.
"Xerox's Document Centre products gained the top spot for monochrome digital copier placements," said Keith
Kmetz, IDC research manager. Kmetz noted that Xerox plans to deliver network printing and scanning on schedule in the first
quarter of 1998. "This should position Xerox for significantly improved results for MFP (multifunction peripherals) configurations
in 1998," he noted.
Xerox recently announced that in the fourth quarter of 1997, digital products comprised 41 percent of total revenues,
up from 35 percent one year earlier.
