HP Offers Year 2000 Planning and Methodology Course

PALO ALTO, Calif. —Hewlett-Packard Company has announced that it will offer a three-day course to provide IT professionals with a practical methodology for analyzing, understanding and resolving their enterprise-wide Year 2000 problems.

The course will feature Ardes 2k(TM), a knowledge-based process manager available through HP's alliance with Data Dimensions, Inc. It is slated to be made available worldwide in the late fall.

"HP's Year 2000 course is a comprehensive training program that effectively integrates guidelines, project plans and Data Dimensions' tools," said Elizabeth Swanson, HP Education's Year 2000 marketing manager. "All course attendees will receive a personal copy of and license to use Ardes 2k, an interactive Web tool. Ardes 2k consists of more than 200 detailed steps and 250 templates that address the Year 2000 from both an IT and non-IT perspective."

Year 2000 project managers, MIS managers and related IT support staff will learn how to use project-management methodology and techniques, tools and solutions. They will gain detailed knowledge about HP-specific product compliance, support and services. "This training is appropriate for end users and channel partners who want to provide these services for their customers," said Swanson.

The course is appropriate for HP customers who already have initiated a millennium update program to verify current progress and to validate ongoing plans. It takes an enterprise-wide approach and covers the processes organizations must address in everything from legal compliance and organizational awareness to testing code redesigns for final acceptance.

IT professionals will gain the knowledge they need to understand and fix millennium problems, as well as a comprehensive framework for guiding them through all facets of the Year 2000 project. Key topics include the following:
  • perspective on the problem and issues;
  • the impact of a project timeline and milestones;
  • responsibilities for compliance and project milestone control;
  • project hurdles — importance of senior-management involvement;
  • HP's definition of compliance and the process of defining compliance;
  • legal considerations and known mandates;
  • the Intel-based HP product family — hardware, operating-system and applications compliance.
