Planning is Underway for BTA's Converging Technologies Conference

Kansas City, Mo. — Planning efforts for the 1999 BTA Converging Technologies Conference are well underway. The association's 74th annual conference will be held April 6-9, 1999, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The event begins with the Digital Strategy Forum (DSF) on April 6-7. The two-day educational program (offered at an additional fee), organized by CAP Ventures, will include a number of presentations designed to help dealers develop selling and support strategies as they transition their clients to digital, connected products.

The conference continues on April 8-9 with approximately 25 educational seminars and tutorials. Exhibit hours, featuring the industry's latest products and technologies, are also scheduled for April 8-9. Exhibitors include Dataproducts, Helwett-Packard, Katun, Konica, Mita, Samsung, Toshiba, and Xerox.

"We had many positive comments from those who attended the educational programs held in conjunction with the 1998 BTA Conference in Orlando, Fla.," said BTA President William D. Cooper. "Those comments, along with the responses to surveys taken at the Orlando conference, are serving to guide BTA in developing its educational line-up for the Las Vegas conference in April. The line-up will include a number of seminars that we specifically intended to guide BTA members in effectively marketing the latest technologies."

Among the seminar topics and speakers already slated for April 8-9:

  • "Training and Certification," Joyce Chapman, Electronic Systems Inc.;
  • "Valuing Your Business," Charles Sheffieck, Sheffieck Consultants Inc.;
  • "Smart Staffing," Wayne Outlaw, The Outlaw Group;
  • "Service and Support," Mike Stoll, StreetSmart Seminars; and
  • "The Buying Mind," Kim Ward, Applied Concepts.
Other seminar topics will include e-commerce and HP's Mopier and business profitability. "Strategies, Weaknesses, Opportunities and T hreats" (SWOT), an open panel discussion, will be held on April 8 and moderated by Lou Slawetsky, president of Industry Analysts Inc.

The conference will also feature four, full-day tutorials (offered at an additional fee): Don Thompson's "Printer Repair," Steven Power on "Selling Digital," a network configuration Boot Camp and BTA's FIX seminar.
