RICI Chairman Bill Gager to Keynote ImageTech Expo in May
Ventura, Calif. When ImageTech, a new imaging exposition and conference, debuts in Los Angeles May
13-15, 1999, Keynote Speaker William C. Gager will discuss a new proposal seeking tax credits for remanufacturers
and metals recyclers. Gager will report to attendees on the status of lobbying efforts to pass legislation awarding
federal tax credits to encourage the recycling, remanufacturing and reclamation of manufactured products.
Quoting from the text of RICI's Tax Credit Proposal: "A 26 percent tax credit for the increased investment
in equipment used in remanufacturing operations will accelerate capital investment in remanufacturing and
provide significant environmental and labor benefits. This incentive should make a significant contribution to U.S.
labor demand from a sector that will provide needed job skill training.
"There are many tax credits for energy and environmental conservation in the U.S. tax law. More new
environmental tax cuts are proposed by the Administration (e.g., a 20 percent credit for purchase of certain fuel cells,
heat pumps, and water heaters and a $2,000 credit for the purchase of new energy-efficient homes) recycling,
preserving the value of the original manufacturing, including much of the cost of energy, natural resources, capital and labor."
(Note: a complete copy of the proposed bill, along with an Executive Summary of its provisions is available
from either DRC or RICI)."
More than half of the 94 booths have been booked; over 50 vendors are expected to exhibit at the show.
They will represent companies from North and South America, Europe, Japan, and the Asia-Pacific region. On display
will be toner and ink jet filling equipment and supplies, cartridge remanufacturing components, machine parts,
OPC drums, ink jet inks, and toner products, instruments and test equipment, specialty papers and films, and other
imaging materials.
