SCC's Odyssey™ HP 4000 High Density Geared Drum Delivers Bolder Text
Sanford, NC — In December 1998, Static Control Components released the Odyssey™
HP4000 High Density Drum, increasing text boldness in HP 4000 output.
According to John Pickett, toner development manager, light print problems have been an
issue with the HP 4000 since its release. "Part of the problem is the expectations of the end user,"
said Pickett. "They are used to a darker appearing text. They are accustomed to a darker appearing text
from earlier engines such as the EX, VX, and WX as well as their experience with remanufactured
cartridges. Up to now, the only way remanufacturers could attempt to achieve character boldness was
through toner selection."
Along with the bold text appearance, the Odyssey High Density Drum improves solid
black image density. However, in order to achieve bolder characters a reduction in yield will be seen.
The HP 4000 Odyssey High Density Drum with gears is available with optional inserts
and is qualified with SCC's HP 4000 toner and HP 4000 PhotoPrecise™ toner, delivering
print quality that closely matches end users' needs and expectations. The silencer insert
prevents potential cartridge noise that can occur when using replacement PCRs.
SCC continues to expand the HP 4000 line and to invest extensive time and resources
in each product. With the introduction of the high density drum, along with the original HP
4000 Odyssey drum, SCC now offers remanufacturers a choice with two high quality OPC
products for the HP 4000.
