Membrana-Charlotte Introduces More Economical Liqui-Cel Industrial Membrane Contactors
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Membrana-Charlotte has increased the
capacity of its industrial grade 10 by 28 membrane contactors to lower overall
costs of carbon dioxide and oxygen removal from liquids.
The industrial 10 by 28 Liqui-Cel membrane contactor was
introduced in 2002. Since then, additional application testing has been
completed that allows Membrana-Charlotte to increase the flow capacity of these
contactors. This is a benefit because one contactor can now process 210 grams
per minute (gpm) in one unit instead of 175 gpm. Higher flow capacity means
that fewer contactors and a smaller blower and vacuum pump are needed to treat
the same water stream, further lowering both the capital and operating costs of
the membrane system.
The GasCADTM sizing program has also been updated so that
systems can be accurately sized with the larger capacity. Carbon dioxide
negatively impacts the performance of ion exchange and EDI technology used in a
variety of water treatment plants and industrial process water streams.
Liqui-Cel contactors offer a modular solution to remove carbon dioxide before
these processes without chemicals. The contactors are also commonly used for
removing excess oxygen. Oxygen negatively impacts many process waters and it
can oxidize many materials.
Membrana-Charlotte also offers liquid-ring vacuum pumps,
eductors and resistivity controlling equipment to complement the membrane
contactors. Membrana’s Industrial Membrane Group also manufactures a
variety of membranes used for filtration in various industries and
applications. There are 10 manufacturing facilities in the United States,
Europe and Asia, and global markets are served through sales offices in North
and South America, Europe, Japan, Australia, Southeast Asia and China.
