Ames Rubber Introduces Line of Color Fuser Rollers

HAMBURG, N.J. – Ames Rubber Corp. has announced the introduction of a new line of color copy fuser rollers that last longer than industry standards, setting a new standard for quality and cost control.

"Offered under the brand name Colourdiamond, the rollers are the result of a development effort between Avon Ames, our UK-based joint venture that specializes in fuser roller technology, and ourselves," said Ames President Chuck Roberts.

The rollers have a special basecoat that resists degradation caused by fuser oils, which are essential to the fusing process but cause damage to the basecoat that shortens the life of the roller. Ames also has applied its extensive experience in materials engineering and thin-film coatings to the topcoat, making it "highly resistant" to abrasion as well as fuser oil attack.

The result is a roller with an exterior surface that still looks glossy even after running 65,000 copies. As a comparison, tests under the same conditions show that the surface of a typical OEM roller deteriorates rapidly, resulting in a surface with abrasions, striations and loss of gloss that reduce print quality early in the roller’s life. The OEM roller’s quality deteriorates at about 25,000 copies, at which time it needs to be removed from the copier and replaced.

"In terms of life-cycle cost, the results are remarkable. The Colourdiamond roller can reduce the cost per copy by as much as $5 per 1,000 copies," Roberts said.

The new line of Colourdiamond rollers was first launched in Europe and has been adopted by a number of major dealers and service organizations. The rollers are now being offered to dealers, distributors and OEMs in North America.

For 55 years, design engineers in every industry from automotive to aerospace have called upon Ames to provide parts and products that exhibit superior efficiency, reliability and longevity.
