Laser Lab Helps Libraries Raise Money Through Cartridge Collection

EPHRATA, Pa. – Laser Lab Inc., in conjunction with public libraries in Lancaster County, Pa., started a fund-raising campaign Sept. 1. The ongoing program, dubbed "Project O.W.L.," equips participating libraries with a collection box and promotional material to encourage patrons to bring in their empty ink and toner cartridges from printers, copiers and fax machines. Laser Lab – a cartridge remanufacturing, service and supply facility with a retail store in Ephrata – donates the value of each cartridge collected to the local libraries. Library patrons also can pick up a coupon to be used toward their first purchase at Laser Lab. An additional donation will be given for each coupon used.

This is the first program of its kind to be coordinated with most of the libraries in the county. While Ephrata Public Library and Quarryville Public Library have been participating in a similar fund-raiser for more than four years, it wasn’t until recently that their efforts were incorporated countywide.

The objective of Project O.W.L. is to help local libraries raise the funds needed to expand their libraries and to purchase new books and other materials. Additionally, the program emphasizes the environmental benefits of remanufacturing the empties over trashing or recycling them. Project O.W.L. aims to reduce waste and encourage an environmentally responsible attitude in library patrons.
