Ricoh recently announced the establishment of Ricoh Korea Co. Ltd. as a 100 percent Ricoh-owned sales company in Seoul, Korea. Ricoh Korea will start its sales of production print business lines using its sales network. In the near future, Ricoh Korea will expand its business lines to office MFPs, printers, and solutions. Currently, the Korea branch of Ricoh Production Print Solutions Japan conducts production print business in Korea. Ricoh Korea will add cut sheet printers to its business lines, and, by adding resources, will be able to offer one-stop solutions to customers and conduct more efficient marketing and sales in Korea.

The U.S. Supreme Court decided this week in the case of Kirtsaeng v. John Wiley & Sons that the doctrine of first sale, which allows for legally acquired copyrighted works to be resold by their owners, does apply to works made (and first sold) overseas. The Int'l ITC, which is one of the amici in this case, reported that the decision states, in part, " ... the practical problems described by petitioner and his amici are too serious, extensive, and likely to come about to be dismissed as insignificant -- particularly in light of the ever-growing importance of foreign trade to America."

According to JapanTimes.com, Samsung Electronics will invest ¥10.4 billion (approximately $108.3 million) in Sharp Corp., “giving the embattled Japanese firm (Sharp) a needed cash lifeline,” the Japanese news outlet reported. Samsung will buy a 3 percent stake in Sharp, and in doing so will become the largest foreign shareholder and fifth largest overall. In a statement regarding the deal, Sharp said, “This capital alliance will enable Sharp to secure its source of revenue from (the) LCD business forming the company’s core. Sharp will certainly position its business for growth by continuously accelerating implementation of its business restructuring to realize a ‘recovery of business performance and credibility.’”
