5 Questions With Christian Pepper

Who is Christian Pepper?

I’m a British expat who has made his home in Atlanta, Ga. I’m the company vice president at Printersdirect, the provider of MPS Ready remanufactured printer hardware.

What is your background? How did you get into this industry?

In 1996, I started work fresh from university for Lexmark UK and was employed along with one of my current business partners to set up an asset recovery division called Lextrade. We were employed to trade in old printers and sell them so that Lexmark could pass back money to their customers and keep old technology from being sent to landfill. Fast forward (arrggghh) 16 years to the present, and I’m still in the “used” printer hardware business.

What are you passionate about?

Printing I guess, but I see things very differently from most of my colleagues in the aftermarket. Most companies accept the status quo that they lose a remanufactured toner purchaser/customer every 3-5 years when the customer purchases a new printer that has a new toner design not available in the aftermarket. However, I have a very simple mantra – Friends don’t let friends buy new printers – and it is the strategy and tactic behind this mantra that I will share with the readers of this blog. I’ll be discussing simple strategies to utilize aftermarket products and services to deliver savings to businesses and increase profits for dealers.

What do you do in your free time?

I’m a big reader of biographies, business books and spy novels. Most people I meet think it’s quite quaint/intriguing/strange, but I haven’t owned or watched television in the 5 years I’ve lived in the U.S. Instead, at every opportunity I’m outdoors, and I love spending time at the local lakes, mountains or Florida panhandle coast soaking up all the wonderful culture to be found in this great big country.

What kind of information will readers find on your blog?

Readers will find a very different perspective on the imaging industry and in particular MPS. I’m not a 50,000-feet guy or an MPS theory purist. I’m going to write from a guerrilla perspective and share ideas and experience that can help my aftermarket colleagues level the playing field when competing with the big OEMs.
