McCusker Named ACRA President
Graham McCusker was appointed the new executive officer of the Australasian Cartridge
Remanufacturers Association (ACRA) following the retirement of David Gibbons,
who held the position for three and a half years. McCusker will take up a full-time
position commencing Nov. 7, 2004.
McCusker currently runs a small cartridge remanufacturing and printer service
and repair business based in Christchurch, New Zealand. He was selected by The
Recycler Magazine as its 2004 “Remanufacturer of the Year” following
his lobbying and representations to the New Zealand government and Ministry
of the Environment on behalf of the industry. McCusker also hosted the very
successful ACRA Conference in Christchurch in 2003 and has been ACRA’s
regional representative of South New Zealand for the past two years.
McCusker was successful in his application for ACRA’s top job amongst a total
of three applications. His knowledge of the industry over the past 10 years, his
close ties with the issues and policies being developed by ACRA and the respect
already given to him by remanufacturers in Australia and New Zealand made him
the obvious candidate. McCusker has also been a member of the ASTM and I-ITC boards,
where he became known to many international leaders of the industry. McCusker
will relocate to Australia.
As of Nov. 7, his first official duties will include general secretary duties
on ACRA’s Executive Committee in Melbourne, Victoria. McCusker will then
tour all regions to meet with members during November. In the meantime, he will
be scaling back and closing his remanufacturing activities and relocating his
home to Melbourne where he will establish the ACRA office. The appointment is
a full-time position and the new ACRA office will be located in professional quarters
with a boardroom, office and storage facilities.
McCusker sees his responsibilities as creating a stronger awareness of the industry,
lobbying for legislation that favors reuse of empty cartridges, the nurturing
of a partnership with Landcare Australia, creating procedures for all members
to treat their waste streams and the development of a nationwide accreditation
scheme.
