Curb Day Aims to Derail Wasteful Ways

Curb Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 16 and is slated to give people the chance in the United States to both cut down on waste and give to others at the same time. Mike Morone, a former teacher living in the Rochester, N.Y. area, is heading up the effort. Morone, who calls himself a big fan of toner recharging, started a program that recycled more than 2,000 computers for students while he was a teacher.

“No one is sponsoring it except for me,” Morone said. “I’m going very low cost — a cheap Web site and e-mail.”

Morone’s idea is to have people put out unwanted items that are still useful on their curb — but not garbage — for others to cart away for free.

Morone reminds people not to participate in Curb Day if local ordinances prohibit this activity.
