BTA Business Planning Workshop Scheduled for April

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Business Technology Association (BTA) and Strategy Development, a management consulting and advanced sales training firm, will present the association’s BTA Business Planning Workshop on April 12-14 in Phoenix.

Taught by Jim Boulden, Tom Callinan and Ed Carroll of Strategy Development, this two-and-a-half-day educational workshop's purpose is to set the framework for each dealer attendee’s team to develop an operational business plan. Using the case study approach, attendees will learn how to use the Strategy Development Scorecard, industry statistics and a company’s SWOT analysis as the foundation of the planning process. Once the foundation is in place, the Strategy Development team will teach attendees how to layer in detailed and quantifiable actions to accomplish revenue and profit growth goals. The team will also help identify the resources needed to implement goals and identify ways to manage the needed resources through effective inventory, accounts receivable and cash-flow planning. The final step in the training will be how to put in place a monthly operational process to ensure attainment of the goals or, where necessary, mid-course adjustments.

Workshop topics include: benefits of a plan; Strategy Development Scorecard; the three major financial statements; importance of productivity; cash management; relevant industry trends; conducting SWOT analysis and using the data; launching new initiatives; process engineering; developing CADs (commitment action documents); and operationalizing the plan.

The workshop is intended for dealership principals, leaders of finance, operations, sales and service — any management member involved in the composition of the annual business plan.

Boulden, a consultant with Strategy Development, has more than 30 years of industry experience with 25 years in finance and operations. Carroll joined Strategy Development in 2008 as a partner. For more than 20 years, he has led large, mid-size and small companies through successful turnarounds and growth cycles.
