Going Dutch. Xerox reached a definitive agreement to acquire Veenman B.V., a subsidiary of Corporate Express, for approximately $68 million. Veenman, with six offices located throughout the Netherlands, is one of the country's leading independent distributors of office printers, copiers and multifunction devices serving small and midsize businesses. As part of the deal, Veenman will start selling Xerox document management products. By acquiring Veenman, Xerox more than doubles its sales force in the region and gains access to 4,000 SMB customers.
The year of Dell. Dell plans to sell laptop and desktop computers in Suning stores and to expand its relationship with Gome, the No.1 consumer electronics retailer in China. Dell will also sell systems in Hontu stores and through several Chinese PC chain retailers including Wuxing, Meicheng, Heng Chang and Heyong stores. The number of Gome stores in which customers can buy Dell products is doubling to nearly 900. Suning customers will initially be able to buy Dell laptops and desktops in more than 300 stores with that number increasing in the future.Kiosks, too. Expanding its presence in the retail point-of-sale market, HP is offering self-service kiosks that are individually designed to meet the needs of business customers. The kiosks can offer a variety of functionality, such as order entry, ticketing, bill payment, check-in, maps and directions, or human resource applications.
